Product Description

Boucherouite rugs are made out of rags. Bouchour is a slang name for ‘cloth’ in Moroccan Arabic. This style of Moroccan rug has only recently begun to be appreciated as art. Moroccans say that Bouchourite are the poorest of the poor people’s rugs. Women salvage scraps of cotton, wool, yarn and occasionally even bits of sparkling brocade in order to weave rugs for their home or nomadic tent. This resourceful technique of recycling old cloth and transforming it into traditional Berber rugs is practiced by tribes all over Morocco. Each rug in this special collection is a colorful work of abstract textile art for the floor or the wall.
